Laura & Luke Edwards • 15th October, 2010

Laura and Luke met at a fundraising course six years ago. During the networking workshop, the participants were asked to sit next to someone they didn’t already know. Laura had noticed Luke on the first day, and decided that this would be a great opportunity to get to know him.

Although they chatted in-between presentations, they didn’t exchange contact details, and when Luke didn’t attend the last day of the course, Laura thought she’d never see him again. Fortunately, Luke knew that Laura worked for the Red Cross and phoned her there the following Monday – and it wasn’t long before the pair met for their first official date.

Laura says that Luke’s proposal was both perfect and a complete surprise. He took her away for a weekend at a luxury cottage on the South Coast. On Saturday night they opted for a night in, and Laura went to hire a DVD while Luke stayed at the cottage, saying he would start cooking their dinner. When Laura returned, it was to a candle-lit room and a very romantic proposal.

The couple chose Verandahs Terrara House Estate on the South Coast as the venue for their wedding, which Laura says was the best day of her life. She and her bridesmaids got dressed in the Estate’s gorgeous bridal salon, enjoying a delicious high tea while the make-up artist and hair stylist worked their magic.

A relaxed and intimate ceremony followed at a tiny country church. A friend of the couple sang Billy Joel’s Just the Way You Are, and the pair all but danced out of the church to Queen’s You’re My Best Friend.

A photo shoot at a local circus resulted in some stunning images that Laura and Luke treasure as a delightful memento of a perfect day.

Luke and Laura’s goal was to make their day a reflection of who they are as a couple: from the fun invitations and a photo booth, to their bomboniere: a CD of their favourite songs. Their selection of music was also very important to them: they entered the marquee to Luke’s favourite song, Disco Inferno, and danced their bridal waltz to Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together. Following the bridal waltz, the fun really began when the couple broke out into a Footloose dance routine!

Laura and Luke agree that the most wonderful thing about their day was celebrating their new lives together with their closest family and friends.

A Relaxed Summer’s Day…

From the first time they met, Felicity and Jake recognised that they had a connection like no other. They just knew they were going to be together forever, and as Felicity says, when you know, you know!

But that didn’t stop Jake’s proposal coming as a big surprise. After ten years together, Felicity thought she would be able to guess when and how Jake would propose, but she was wrong. The couple was staying in Sydney for a fun run in which Felicity was participating. After the run, she met Jake and they went for a walk around Cockle Bay Wharf, which is when Jake asked her to be his wife. Still buzzing from the run, Felicity says the moment was surreal, and the beginning of a wonderfully romantic weekend.

Felicity and Jake’s wedding day was every bit as relaxed as they had hoped. The boys were casually attired in rolled up sleeves and untucked shirts, while the girls chose pretty maxi dresses. Felicity selected a stunning 1930s vintage gown with a delightful Grecian look, and opted for a hairstyle that matched her gown to perfection. Her bouquet was a simple yet sophisticated arrangement of Green Trick carnations, which created quite a talking point among the fascinated wedding day guests.

The couple’s ceremony was held at the Rhododendron Gardens in Mt Pleasant, a tranquil location that was also a beautiful backdrop for some gorgeous wedding photos. And, after completing their photo shoot at Wollongong Harbour, it was time for a party!

Because they wanted to create an informal, intimate atmosphere for their guests, Felicity and Jake arranged to have their reception room set up with cocktail bars and lounges and decorated with lots of candles and lantern lights.

Felicity and Jake’s guests enjoyed delicious canapé style food followed by a large dessert buffet that no one could resist. The couple’s guest book was a chalkboard, a wonderful memento of a wonderful day that now hangs on a wall in their home.

Felicity and Jake’s choice of wedding cake represented another break with tradition: a three-layer milk, dark and white chocolate mousse tower that both looked and tasted sensational.

After spending their wedding night at a luxurious B&B in Mt Pleasant, the couple left for an amazing four weeks in beautiful Tasmania.

Krystyn & Mark Fisher • 2nd April 2010

Although they first met as teenagers, Krystyn and Mark didn’t date until several years later. Then, after two years together, Mark was offered a place at an American university to play rugby union and the couple went their separate ways. A year later while Krystyn was midway through a trip around the world, they met briefly in the UK and Mark surprised her with tickets to Dublin for her 21st birthday, where they had an amazing time together.

Early in 2009, on the last day of a holiday in Bali, Mark got down on bended knee. Krystyn’s ‘yes’ was followed by an afternoon lazing by the pool with text messages rolling in from around the world from excited family and friends.

Krystyn and Mark opted for a classic summer vintage theme for their wedding day. Krystyn found that she became increasingly nervous before the ceremony, but says that as soon as she saw Mark, she felt at ease. “My mum had given me my great grandmother’s diamond and sapphire ring as my something old, borrowed and blue all in one.”

After the ceremony, the bridal party drove back to the reception venue in a stretch Bentley, while Krystyn and Mark followed in a glamorous Rolls Royce. Luckily, the rain had made way for a perfect summer afternoon complete with a spectacular blue sky.

The couple had their photos taken in the reception venue grounds while their guests enjoyed drinks and canapés on the veranda and lawns. The reception was held in a beautifully decorated marquee and the speeches proved to be one of the evening’s highlights. Another highlight was the couple’s choreographed first dance, which delighted their guests who watched from the courtyard while stars twinkled overhead.
